Faber Castell Brights Mixed Media Canvas designed for Scrap Matrix

Hello Everyone,

Today I am here to share with you a mixed media canvas. This canvas is just popping with Faber Castell Gelato colour, isn't it pretty?, the colours used are from the 'Brights' collection.

This canvas has now moved into my daughters bedroom, she fell in love with it and requested to have it hung on her wall, I could not refuse.
To begin I die cut some corrugated packing card (recycled from a recent parcel) and painted the small hearts with Art Basics Heavy Gesso in White and allowed to dry. Lightly I used the red gelato on the raised portions of the cut card and then began smudging all the red in with my finger.

Using Art Basics Soft Matte Gel I adhered some vintage sheet music and washi tape to my canvas, technically you shouldn't need to stick washi tape but I wanted extra assurance it was not going to lift.

Scribble scribble and smudge with three different colours of gelato.....

Through the Maremi Small Art Cell stencil I used a palette knife to apply Art Basics Soft Matte Gel. Using an orange gelato on a sponge (which was included in the Brights kit) I dabbed through the Bubbles Tim Holtz Stencil. After this point I also added some stamping and glossy accent dots which were finished with Finnabair wax.

I adhered my hearts then extra shading was applied and smudged around my dried gel bubbles and hearts using a black Faber Castell PITT pen.

Many thanks for your time today and as always if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Faber Castell Brights Tags - Scrap Matrix Design Team

Hi Everyone,

I am here with you today to share my first Watercolour and Words project for Scrap Matrix with you all. This month I was fortunate enough to work with the wonderful Faber Castell Gelatos in colour collection Brights.

Have you ever crafted with gelatos? can I let you know how much I LOVE them!!. Gelatos have always rated very very highly on my 'always have in my craft room list' ever since doing a 2 day workshop with Donna Downey.

I have created 3 tags combining Gelatos, Paper Artsy stamps, Scrap Matrix Metal and Tim Holtz Paper Dolls. Side note on the Tim Holtz paper dolls, Vicki from Scrap Matrix has had these on back order for quite some time. A super popular and often sold out item world wide. We are all crossing our fingers that they will be in Scrap Matrix store very soon.

This is the one and only stamp set I used to create all 3 tags, just look at these stamps, AMAZING. You could use these stamps for so many things, tags, cards, scrapbooking, journaling. Endless opportunity.

Faber Castell Brights pack, 15 wonderful little colourful babies. If you not worked with these before, they wind up like a chapstick, the colour is super pigmented and a little goes a very long way. Very good value for money.

 Faber Castell Gelato - Brights

How do they work? how did you get that colourful background? the answer is so simple!!. The below photo will show you the three step process
  1. I began by painting the tag with with white gesso
  2. Scribbled over each tag with 3 different coloured Gelatos
  3. Colour smudged it all with my fingers, very carefully I used 3 fingers, not wanting to smudge colours too badly between each other.

Now for a few close up photos, tag by tag......

Thank you, I wish you all a very happy and creative day.

Scrap Matrix and 7 Dots Mixed Media OTP by Rebecca Morris

Hi Everyone,

I am here with you today to shared a little upcycled mixed media creation designed especially for Scrap Matrix.

This month I was very fortunate enough to play with the Fortune Teller collection by 7 Dots Studio. This collection lends itself well to so many different crafting projects from cards, to OTP, through to layouts. It truly is a stunning collection.

Let me take you through a few close up photos before we go through a mini step by step.

The below photo here will show you that I have use a little Scrap Matrix zipper metal pull as my box opener. Always be thinking outside the box with different ways as to how you can be using those amazing Scrap Matrix metals!!.

Although the rest of the box was framed in the blue paper, I decided to use a different paper for the spine, it makes for an interesting look.

1) To create my project I began with a hard cardboard pencil case which I had stashed away in my craft cupboard. It had served its purpose for a little while but was just asking for a little upgrade.

2) I cut up sheets from the 7 Dots Fortune Teller collection to cover the box edge and lid,  Fortune Teller  Fortune Teller 'Soul' lines the spine of the box. These were adhered to the box using Finnabair Art Basics Soft Gloss Gel.

3) All edges have been inked with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in combination of Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo.

1) Layered stickers and cut paper form the start of the background.

2) Rather than use two seperate charms I cut one in half and adhered it down with glossy accents.

Fussy cut butterfly from the 7 Dots Studio Fortune Teller collection  layered with chipboard butterfly from 13 Arts Studio.  All paper edges have also been inked with Tim Holtz Distress Ink.

In pictures 1, 3 and 4 you will see more cut Scrap Matrix metal elements. All used to further embellish the box.

3) Dots of Ranger Glossy Accents were randomly places all over the top of the box. When completely set I gently rubbed over them with Art Alchemy Metallic Wax in Vintage Gold. Edges and other soft touches of the box also received a small touch of wax too.

Prior to adhering the box corners I lined the top and bottom edges of the box with German Scrap points (I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!, I have only fairly recently started using it, it is amazing).

Again here you will see a Scrap Matrix metal which has been used in a different way. This one I cut in half and folded it, this then created two little box corner frames. I think they look super pretty.

That is all from me this month, please if you have any questions at all pop on over to the Scrap Matrix Facebook shares group and I would be more than happy to help you.

Scrap Matrix Mood Board Challenge - My Creative Mess!!

Hi Everyone,

I am here with you today to share with you my first official design team post.

Have you you seen our beautiful mood board for the challenge this month? we would love you to all join in. Thanks to Vicki, our challenge winner will win a voucher to the Scrap Matrix store where you will be able to choose some wonderful crafting items for yourself.

Take a little look at the mood board and feel inspired......

We would all love to see where you create, where is your space? where is your happy crafting zone?

All entries can be shared via the Scrap Matrix Shares Facebook page, we have an album ready for you there to upload your images.  I am very much looking forward to seeing your entries and letting us all share our creative spaces together.

Now, I am pleased (and a little ashamed) to show you my 'Creative Mess' (literally). I am the sort of lady that has a pristine house but when it comes to my craft studio it is a MESS and very very big mess. I attempt to keep this space tidy, but well, it just doesn't work too well. My inner piglet is released here and I have learnt to deal with the fact that my messy side has to be released somewhere.

When we moved from the sea side up to the Perth hills we were fortunate enough to purchase a home that previously had an at home daycare attached. This room was quickly converted to my craft studio. It does have the potential to look like this when I get in the mood to clean it (I will be honest, it is rare it looks like this).

Ok, lets get back to my layout now. This month I had the pleasure of working with the 7 Dots Studio 'Fortune Teller' collection.  What a seriously amazing collection, there are just so many amazing elements here to work with, lots to fussy cut, lots to layer. There is just so much versatility with this beautiful collection. It was an absolute pleasure to create with.

Below you will see fussy cut papers, layered tags, cut Scrap Matrix metal embellishments, vintage sheet music, metallic string, German Scrap, chipboard and lace. Never be afraid to experiment, with different combinations.

With a good strong pair of scissors you can cut your metal embellishments and often turn them into something else.

Scrap Matrix products used for this project include.....

7 Dots Studio Fortune Teller Charted 12" Paper
7 Dots Studio Fortune Teller Palmistry 12" Paper
7 Dots Studio Fortune Teller Soul 12" Paper

Scrap Matrix 'Timeless Love' - Mixed Media Canvas

Hi Everyone,

Today I am happy to bring to you a mixed media canvas which I call 'Timeless Love'. Now I understand there is a fair bit going on here and that is ok. Sometimes you just need to let your hands and mind take complete control and see where you are led, often it can be in wacky and unexpected directions.

This canvas started with me wanting to recycle a few bits and pieces which were laying on my desk. As you can see below anything really can make a great textured background, here we have corrugated cardboard, scrap wool and lacey ribbon (I am sure there is a more technical name for this stuff?). All of these items adhered to my canvas using a little 3D Gloss Gel.  Never be afraid to experiment with your backgrounds and texture, so many items can be used to create great depth.

Here are a couple more photos taken from different angles for you.

List of products used - Available for purchase from Scrap Matrix

Finnabair Texture Paste - Graphite

Thank you for taking the time to look at my project,  I wish you all a happy and creative day.

Most Exciting News - Scrap Matrix Design Team Annoucement

Hi Everyone,

Today I am just so excited to announce I will be joining the inaugural Scrap Matrix Design Team. Receiving the e-mail from Scrap Matrix owner Vicki inviting me to the team, wow, you read your e-mail and think, me? ME? you have chosen ME?. It really is such an honour to be chosen in a position like this along side such talented artists.

Joining this team is the perfect little kick start I need to awake my slightly dormant creative spirit. I have to admit I have been a little bad at finding 'me' time this year OR when I have found this time I have sat in my studio either tidying or shuffling papers. This team announcement has made me block a day, a day when my daughter is at school, an entire day (well school hours) dedicated to create. Tuesday is now officially creative day, no exceptions.

I am really excited to receive my DT box of goodies, it should be here any day now. It is going to be like Christmas in August, how wonderful. Cannot wait to share a few sneaky photos on social media.

Looking forward to bringing you inspirational projects with some seriously amazing product!!

I wish you all a happy and creative day.

Mixed Media Upcyled Canvas Project

Hi Everyone,

Today I would like to bring to you a small mixed media canvas which has been created with a lot of upcyled components. The things I find at my local op shop (that would be thrift story for anyone in the US), always amazes me. One day I found all these items on the same visit, below you will see someones half finished semi stitched craft felt project, an old spoon, a screw, a broken necklace and press studs. I set myself a little internal challenge to include all these items into one project.

And the results was this......I understand this is a little wacky and may not be to everyones liking, but that is ok, art is subjective. I create for  myself and myself only, I think as long as I finish it and say 'I like it' that is all that matters.

Many thanks for stopping by to my blog. I wish you all a very happy and creative day.

The Journey - Mixed Media Canvas

Hello my creative friends...

Today I bring to you a canvas I have entitled 'The Journey'. This week I have to admit has been a rather tough one for me emotionally, there has been more lows than highs this week. This canvas was created with some sadness in my heart, however with sadness eventually comes some light and sunshine. Sometimes our journeys can be tough, but each step makes us a little bit stronger and teaches us something.

I created this canvas solely to enter into 'The Designer's Faves Challenge' Glitter, Metal, Contrast from the Finnabair Creative Team. This challenge is closing on the 15th of this month, I am bringing this canvas in just in the knick of time. I find working to a deadline works well for me, makes me move, inspires me to get into my studio and create. Can I also just say positive feedback from you all lately has been overwhelming on social media, THANK YOU, I feel the love, seriously.

This challenge required glitter, not something I usually work a lot with to be honest, but boy oh boy did I enjoy getting my sparkle on (glitter on my face for days!). You will see dazzling gold raised dots, a glitter vial and glitter throughout the feathered part of her head piece. The metal part of the challenge, oh metal, how I love thee, I don't think I need to point out the metal for you.

Time to Dream - Mixed Media Canvas

It is often so easy to get caught up in life and not take time for yourself, not take time to sit, relax and create. Recently I have begun to make small adjustments to my life, I will not bore you with all the details here, however I would like to share with you that I do plan to create more and share more with you. It is time. I am pleased to see I still have followers here, thank you, this means a lot to me, you loyal crew!!.

I must be the last person to get hold of some of the Art Alchemy waxes!! they arrived this week and it was time to play. This is my third under water scene and instead of my usual green and blue theme I went with a whole range of colours which I dabbed on with a paint brush. The Art Alchemy waxes by Finnabair are a dream to work with over black gesso - LOVE. I think I will now need to go back and buy the missing colours to complete my collection.

Snap 1 - work in progress.....

Snap 2 - completion

Thank you for taking the time to take a look, any question please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

Take time to create today (if not create, take time to relax).
